Medication Guidelines:
In an effort to maintain health and safety at school, there are some guidelines that must be followed in regard to medication.
- All medication must be brought to the school clinic by a parent/guardian.
- No prescription medications or store-bought medications, including cough drops, are to be sent to school with your child.
- Upon drop-off, a medication authorization form and a medication receipt form will be completed.
- All prescription medications stored in the clinic must have the original pharmacy labels.
- Over-the-counter medications will only be accepted in a new, factory-sealed container.
A parent/guardian must come to the clinic to check out any medications. Medication will not be sent home with the child.
Illness Etiquette:
As much as we want to see our heroes every day, consider keeping your child at home if they have any of the following symptoms:
- Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
- Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
- Headache
- Mild stomachache
Please keep your child at home if they have any of the following symptoms (pickup will be required if they present these symptoms at school):
- Fever (temperature of 100.4 or greater)
- Child must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school
- Chronic cough
- Vomiting (at least twice in a 24-hour period) - Drainage/mucus from the eyes
- Unusual appearance/behavior (extreme tiredness, lack of appetite, etc.)
OCPS coordinates with the Florida Department of Health in Orange County in protecting children from communicable diseases. If your child is unwell, they will be given ample opportunity to make up any missed work. Bringing a sick child to school puts other students and staff at risk of getting sick as well.
